So who has/had Dr. Silverman for History? Those who have yet to take American History or need an extra History class under their belt I STRONGLY recommend taking his courses.

If you've never visited despair.com, I would definitely recommend it, especially as finals approach and we are all in need of some serious procrastination. I often laugh out loud.

A thought for the day from despair.com:

Pressure: It can turn a lump of coal into a flawless diamond or an average person into a basketcase.

Hang in there, all! :)

Does anybody know how long it takes records and registration to get graduation applications into the computer? I applied last week and Wingspan is still saying I haven't applied.

I'm a little paranoid to be perfectly honest.

I haven't registered for anything, and definately didn't willingly pay for anything I did not register for. I'm not dl the file either. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten it, I see it as a very suspicious e-mail.

Byington withdraws from Winthrop.

I wish she had stayed. I understand that things are stressful, but they are for pretty much all students...especially at this time of the year.
Anyone know her better to she more light on her standpoint than just The Herald?

So who has read today's Hearld? [06 Nov 2005|08:10pm]

As you all probably have heard about the interesting artcle that was published in the Johnsonian last week I think it was. And today it makes headlines on the front page of The Hearld "Winthrop campus in uproar over column" which is in bold type followed by RAiclaly chare piece in Johnsonian newspaper spars anry student responses.

So we beat out an article on a solider who watched the birth of his child via Internet. So how does evereyone feel about this?

want AIM? [01 Nov 2005|04:47pm]

phdbound14
Hey...

Through a chain of people, I found out a way to get the normal AIM service back.

How to fix AIM:
1. Sign on like regular; press cancel on the "1. Connecting..." screen (If yours automatically tries to login right when you start the program).
2. On the sign on screen, click setup.
3. Go to Sign on/Sign off.
4. Click "Connections".
5. Click on Configuration and let AIM Configure it.
6. Press okay and apply.
7. You should now be able to sign on.

If the AIM Oscar guy is in your taskbar on the bottom of the screen, you can just right-click him and go to "Preferences", then proceed with step 3.

It worked for my roommate & me, so it's worth a try. Good luck!

Ok, I feel like a total spaz for updating again but I don't know what to do without AIM! It is my main source of communication with friends here and at home. I heard there's a rumor going around that they're thinking about banning it because it causes so many problems. I don't really see how that's very fair because AIM isn't illegal (like music downloading is, which has already been banned). I'm aggravated and want my communication tool back!

I was speaking with a few other students before class yesterday...does anyone else think we need to have a student-nominated award for faculty members? We had a professor in mind because we think she's awesome, but students don't really have the opportunity to nominate good professors for anything except advising. Sure, our end-of-course evaluations are somewhat taken into account for those big faculty awards (i.e., Distinguished Professor), but we thought we need a more direct award...maybe "Winthrop Professor of the Year". Does anyone else agree?

herding [05 Oct 2005|02:20pm]

I'm tired of people literally standing in the way.

I was walking into Kinard today and there was a huge group of people just standing there...not smoking...just obstructing. People coming from both directions (at the main entryway) had to walk around these guys. Is anyone else tired of people just standing in the way all the time? I also dislike people who decide to have conversations at sidewalk intersections or in the hallway in Kinard (and other buildings, I suppose). I think there should be designated "pull off" zones where you can have your conversations. What's the deal?

"Reserves have dwindled sharply since Katrina knocked out power Monday to the two Gulf of Mexico pipelines – Colonial and Plantation – that supply virtually all the Carolinas’ gas." - from the Charlotte Observer.

Please try to conserve gas. It's only supposed to last into the next week or so and we don't need a gas crisis.

I don't know about any of you, but I have to travel to an elementary school in Fort Mill for my field experience every Tuesday and Thursday and it's extremely important that this city has some gas.

Hurricane Relief. [02 Sep 2005|09:22am]

simply_erin
I know we all recieved the email from Dr. A. about the meeting he was attending to find out what Winthrop can do to help with the victims of the hurricane, but has anyone heard anything else about what we can do to help.

If you all know of any groups/clubs around Campus (or in Rock Hill for that matter) that I doing something to help with the relief effort for the Hurricane Katrina victims and what I can do to get involved, please let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks
Erin
